The HERTEL 4006139 is an indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. The body accepts two HPMT186812-GP inserts and produces a 2.25-inch (57.15 mm) nominal bore diameter, with a maximum drill diameter of 2.318 inches. The 1.5-inch straight cylindrical shank interfaces directly with standard milling machine spindles and drill chucks of the appropriate bore. At a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio, the 4006139 delivers a maximum drill depth of 6.75 inches. Flute length measures 7.067 inches, and the overall body length is 287.71 mm. Right-hand cutting direction. The tool body is constructed of steel and includes through-coolant capability via a 1/4-inch threaded coolant port at the shank end.
This indexable insert drill is suited for production machining environments where large-diameter holes must be drilled without the cycle-time penalty of solid carbide or brazed tooling. Typical applications include job shops, aerospace, oil and gas component manufacturing, and heavy equipment fabrication where 2.25-inch diameter holes are required in steel, cast iron, or similar ferrous materials. The straight cylindrical shank makes the 4006139 compatible with standard drilling and machining center setups. Through-coolant support helps manage chip evacuation and heat at depth, which is especially important when drilling to the full 6.75-inch capacity.
Compatible with HPMT186812-GP indexable inserts. Designed for use in machining centers and drilling machines fitted with straight-bore toolholders or chucks sized for a 1.5-inch cylindrical shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully de-energized and the spindle locked. Confirm insert seating and screw torque per insert manufacturer guidelines before starting a cut. Through-coolant should be verified functional before drilling at full depth to prevent chip packing. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer specifications for maximum RPM and feed rate for the workpiece material.
