The HERTEL 4006097 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. Built to HID drill style specifications, it accepts two replaceable HPMT156812-GP inserts and delivers a 1-15/16 inch (1.9375 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a maximum drill depth of 3-7/8 inches, yielding a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The 1-1/2 inch straight cylindrical shank provides rigid clamping in standard drill chucks or toolholders. Right-hand cutting direction and coolant-through capability make this drill suitable for production machining environments where heat management and chip evacuation are critical. Machinists and toolroom professionals working with CNC machining centers or manual boring mills are the primary installers.
This drill is suited for production and job-shop applications requiring consistent, repeatable hole quality in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The indexable insert design eliminates regrinding downtime and allows insert changes at the machine without removing the drill body from the spindle. At 7.978 inches body length with a 4.033 inch flute length, it fits standard toolholding systems sized for 1-1/2 inch straight shanks. The 1/4 inch shank-end coolant hole thread supports direct coolant-through delivery for through-spindle coolant setups commonly found on CNC machining centers.
Compatible with HID drill style toolholding. Insert compatibility: HPMT156812-GP (two inserts required). Designed for use in machine spindles and toolholders accepting a 1-1/2 inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with indexable tooling systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts and before mounting the drill body in the toolholder. Ensure the shank seating depth and runout are within machine tolerance before cutting. Follow the insert manufacturer torque guidance for insert clamping screws and verify coolant-through connections are sealed before engaging spindle coolant flow.
