The HERTEL 4006086 is a 2-inch diameter indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking and machining operations. Built on a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio, this drill achieves a maximum drill depth of 4 inches in a single pass. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1.5 inches in diameter, providing rigid clamping in standard drill chucks and tool holders. The steel body accepts two indexable inserts, eliminating the need to regrind cutting edges and reducing downtime on production runs. Coolant-through capability via a 1/4-inch threaded port at the shank end supports chip evacuation and thermal control at the cutting zone. Right-hand cutting direction suits the vast majority of CNC machining center and lathe applications.
This drill is suited for CNC machining centers, horizontal boring mills, and turning centers where repeatable, large-diameter hole production is required. The 2xD ratio makes it appropriate for through-holes and blind-hole applications where depth-to-diameter requirements fall within the 4-inch to 5-inch range. The insert-based design is particularly well-suited to high-volume production environments where consistent hole quality and fast insert changes are priorities. Machining professionals and tooling specialists are the primary installers and operators of this tool.
Designed for use with HID drill style tooling systems and compatible with HPMT156812-GP indexable inserts. Fits standard straight-shank toolholders accepting a 1.5-inch shank diameter.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a properly rated toolholder before tightening. Verify coolant-through supply lines are connected and operating at the appropriate system pressure before beginning a cut. Follow the insert manufacturer guidelines for insert seating and screw torque to ensure proper cutting edge engagement.
