The HERTEL 4006085 is a steel-body indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. Built to a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio, it delivers a maximum drill depth of 2-3/8 inches with a nominal drill diameter of 1-3/16 inches (1.1875 inches decimal). The straight cylindrical shank measures 1-1/4 inches in diameter, making it compatible with standard toolholder bores in that size range. The drill accepts two indexable inserts - compatible insert style HPMT094508-GP - and features through-coolant capability via a 1/4 inch threaded coolant hole at the shank end. Right-hand cutting direction. Intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers and manual milling equipment.
This indexable insert drill is suited for production drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials in both job-shop and production environments. The 2xD ratio positions it for applications requiring accurate, flat-bottom-capable holes at moderate depth without the chip-evacuation challenges of longer-reach tooling. The through-coolant feature supports higher feed rates and improved tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Typical install scenarios include horizontal and vertical machining centers where a 1-1/4 inch straight shank is the standard interface.
Designed for use with HPMT094508-GP indexable inserts. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 1-1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Drill style HID.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Confirm insert seating and screw torque per the insert manufacturer's guidelines before running the tool. Through-coolant connection at the shank end requires a compatible coolant-through toolholder or spindle to activate internal coolant flow.
