The HERTEL 331-205080 is a single-flute solid carbide countersink designed for producing clean, accurate countersunk holes in metalworking and precision machining applications. It features a 3/8 inch head diameter and a 100-degree included angle, making it well-suited for standard fastener seat preparation in harder materials where carbide's wear resistance provides a clear advantage over high-speed steel alternatives. The straight cylindrical shank measures 3/8 inch in diameter, allowing it to seat securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists and tool and die technicians rely on this style of countersink for deburring, chamfering, and countersinking operations on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials.
This countersink is intended for use in machine shop environments, CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual milling setups where controlled countersink depth and angle consistency are required. The single-flute design reduces chatter on difficult materials and provides excellent surface finish at the countersink seat. Typical applications include fastener hole preparation, edge chamfering, and deburring operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals in both production and jobbing environments.
Designed as a standard straight-shank countersink compatible with drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 3/8 inch diameter shank, for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual mills.
Install and remove cutting tools only with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized collet or chuck to prevent runout, which is especially critical with single-flute tools. Carbide is brittle and susceptible to chipping from interrupted cuts or side-loading — use smooth, consistent feed rates and avoid lateral forces on the tool. Cutting tool installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with applicable workplace safety standards.
