The HERTEL 30017700 is a solid carbide circuit board drill bit designed for precision drilling in printed circuit board fabrication and electronics manufacturing applications. Ground to a 118-degree point angle with a fast spiral and tapered web configuration, this bit delivers clean entry and efficient chip evacuation in tight-tolerance work. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with base materials is a concern. At 0.1770 inches (4.50 mm) in diameter, it corresponds to Wire Size 16 and holds a tight diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and PCB shop operators are the primary installers of this tooling.
This drill bit is suited for use in CNC drilling machines, benchtop drill presses, and precision drill stations found in electronics manufacturing, prototype shops, and industrial toolrooms. Rated for cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and steel, it performs across a range of substrate materials beyond standard PCB laminates. The right-hand cutting direction and 35-degree helix angle promote stable, low-vibration cutting in production runs and one-off precision work alike.
Designed for use in standard CNC and manual drill spindles accepting a 0.1770-inch straight shank, compatible with cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and steel workpieces as specified by the manufacturer.
This tooling should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with carbide drill bit handling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator on precision setups. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed adjustment, and contact with hardened surfaces beyond the rated material applications. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection based on workpiece material and hole depth.
