The HERTEL 2500512 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it offers the hardness and wear resistance required for demanding cutting environments. The 1/2-inch diameter cutter features four flutes with a chipbreaker geometry that breaks chips into smaller segments, reducing heat buildup and cutting forces during heavy roughing passes. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working with vertical or horizontal milling machines.
This end mill suits roughing applications in job shops, production machining, and toolroom environments. The chipbreaker geometry makes it well suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and high-depth-of-cut passes where chip control is critical. The 1/2-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders commonly found on VMCs and manual knee mills. It is a regular-length tool, appropriate for the majority of workpiece setups where extended reach is not required. Typical workpiece materials include steel alloys, stainless steel, cast iron, and other ferrous metals where TiN coating provides a measurable tool-life advantage.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct procurement option for 1/2-inch roughing end mill applications requiring a four-flute, single-end, chipbreaker geometry in solid carbide with TiN coating.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the tool tip before beginning the cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
