The HERTEL 2500496 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiN (Titanium Nitride), it delivers durability and heat resistance in demanding cutting environments. The 1/4 inch diameter tool features four flutes with an integrated chipbreaker geometry that breaks chips into shorter segments, reducing recutting and heat buildup. With a 3/4 inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length, it is sized for standard roughing passes in tight or open workspaces. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers typically specify this tool for high-volume metal removal before finish passes.
This end mill is suited for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills across light manufacturing, tool and die, and job shop environments. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with conventional spindle setups. The centercutting capability allows for direct plunge entry into workpiece material without a pre-drilled hole. The regular length designation and 1/4 inch shank make it a straightforward drop-in for standard collets and end mill holders in production or prototype work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 1/4 inch collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems used in CNC and manual milling applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Use a calibrated torque wrench and appropriate collet nut wrench to seat the shank securely in the holder, avoiding over-tightening that can deform the collet bore. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, as excessive runout accelerates wear on carbide tooling.
