The HERTEL 2500489 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), it delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The chipbreaker geometry breaks chips into shorter segments, reducing heat buildup and cutting forces during heavy roughing passes. At 3/16 inches in diameter with a 3/8 inch length of cut and 2 inches overall length, this is a compact tool suited for slotting, profiling, and pocketing in tight geometries. It is installed and run by machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production environments, and tool rooms.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where chip control is critical. The 4-flute, right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration supports conventional and climb milling on vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. The regular length profile fits standard tool holders without requiring extended reach setups. The TiCN coating makes it a practical choice for applications involving stainless steel, alloy steel, and hardened materials where an uncoated carbide tool would wear prematurely.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 3/16 inch collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator using an appropriate collet, shrink-fit holder, or end mill holder rated for the 3/16 inch shank diameter. Confirm runout at the spindle before commencing a roughing pass, as excessive runout accelerates uneven wear on the chipbreaker geometry. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling guidelines for speed and feed parameters based on workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or coating wear before each use and replace when edge condition degrades.
