The HERTEL 2412153 is a cobalt steel chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. With a 15/64 inch (0.2344 inch decimal) diameter and a 6-inch overall length, this reamer delivers tight-tolerance bore sizing in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The 6-flute spiral design provides smooth cutting action with a right-hand cutting direction, and the bright uncoated finish keeps the tool ready to run without additional prep. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance technicians install this reamer in drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers where final bore dimension and surface finish are critical.
This chucking reamer is suited for light-to-medium stock removal on through-holes and blind holes requiring close dimensional control. The 1-1/2 inch flute length provides adequate chip evacuation for typical hole depths in this diameter range. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard collet chucks, drill chucks, and floating holders without modification, making it a straightforward drop-in for most machine tool setups.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with collet chucks or drill chucks sized for a straight-cylindrical shank in this diameter class.
Chucking reamers are installed by licensed machinists and maintenance technicians following standard machine tool lockout and de-energization procedures before tooling changes. Ensure the shank seating surface and chuck bore are clean and free of chips before mounting. Run reamers at reduced speeds compared to drilling — generally one-third to one-half of the drill speed for the same material — and use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. Never use a reamer to open up a hole that is significantly undersize; drill to within a few thousandths of final diameter before reaming.
