The HERTEL 2387512 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting operations where a shorter, more rigid tool is required. Sized at wire gauge 34 (0.1110 inches decimal), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. At 1-7/8 inches overall length with a 7/8-inch flute, this stub-length geometry delivers added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a reliable choice for production drilling, screw machine work, and tight-clearance applications. Installed by machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance technicians.
This bit is suited for drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and similar materials where hole accuracy and tool stability are priorities. The shorter overall length reduces deflection in drill presses, CNC machines, screw machines, and hand-held power tools. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. Web-thinned construction reduces cutting resistance at the chisel edge, which is especially useful in production environments where cycle time and tool longevity matter.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard wire gauge 34 screw machine length drill bits used in drill presses, CNC lathes, turret machines, and hand-held power tools equipped with a compatible chuck size.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should install and operate this tooling following applicable shop safety protocols. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing bits or clearing chips. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the material being drilled or the rated capacity of the machine.
