The HERTEL 2387496 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in metal, plastic, and composite materials. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS bits. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and requires less thrust to start a hole, making it well-suited for production drilling and CNC applications. At 1-7/8 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, which improves hole accuracy in short, repetitive drilling cycles. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.
This bit is used in screw machine operations, drill press work, and CNC machining centers where a rigid, short-body bit is preferred. Wire gauge size 32 corresponds to 0.116 inches, placing it in the small-diameter range commonly used for tapping pilot holes, clearance holes for small fasteners, and precision metalworking tasks in both production shop and maintenance environments. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician would typically specify this bit for light-duty ferrous and non-ferrous drilling applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct specification bit for screw machine, drill press, and CNC drilling setups that accept straight-shank drill bits in the 0.100 to 0.150 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is fully secured and the workpiece is properly clamped before beginning any drilling operation. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing bits. Cutting speeds and feeds should be selected based on the workpiece material and machine capability — do not exceed the rated speed range for high-speed steel tooling.
