The HERTEL 2387306 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting applications requiring a compact, rigid tool. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended wear resistance and reduced friction during repeated drilling cycles. The bit measures 2.25 inches overall length with a 1.1875-inch flute length, a 0.1890-inch decimal diameter corresponding to wire size 12, and a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust at entry. Screw machine length geometry keeps the tool short and stiff, making it well-suited for production environments and CNC or turret setups where overhang and deflection matter.
This drill bit is used in machine shop, production drilling, and general metalworking applications where a stub-length tool improves rigidity over jobber-length alternatives. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. Its web-thinned, split point design is particularly useful when drilling steel, aluminum, and other metals in repetitive or automated cycles. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, and production floor operators are the typical end users.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for wire size 12 screw machine length drill bits used in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and turret tooling that accept a 0.1890-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with rotating tool safety practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before beginning a production run. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing or inspecting tooling. Follow the machine manufacturer and applicable OSHA standards for RPM, feed rate, and coolant application when using coated HSS tooling.
