The HERTEL 2386746 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling in metal fabrication, machine shop, and general industrial applications. Built from heavy-duty high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without center-punching and reduces walking on flat surfaces. Overall length is 2-1/8 inches with a 1-1/16-inch flute length, keeping the tool rigid in short-reach setups. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters.
Screw machine length bits are the shortest standard drill format, making them the preferred choice where rigidity matters most — production drilling, gang drilling fixtures, drill press work, and CNC applications where chatter and deflection must be minimized. The 11/64-inch diameter (0.1719 inches decimal) and regular spiral flute geometry suit through-hole and blind-hole drilling in steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials. Licensed electricians, machinists, HVAC fabricators, and plumbing trades reach for this format when working in tight quarters or drilling sheet metal and strut.
Designed as a standard screw machine length drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, hand drills, and gang drilling fixtures accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 11/64-inch diameter range.
Secure the shank fully into the chuck and verify concentricity before starting the cut. No coolant-through capability is present, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling hard steels to prevent premature edge wear. Follow shop safety protocols and OSHA machine guarding requirements when operating drill presses or powered hand tools. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit rather than re-sharpening TiN-coated edges, as re-grinding removes the coating.
