The HERTEL 2386696 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed, high-volume drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and trade shop environments. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers improved surface hardness and extended tool life compared to uncoated HSS. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without center-punching and reduces thrust. At 1.75 inches overall length, the stub-length body provides added rigidity, making it well suited for drill press and hand-drill work in tight or confined clearances. A web-thinned, parallel-web construction further reduces cutting resistance on entry.
This bit is used in light industrial and trade applications where short, rigid drill geometry is preferred over jobber-length bits. Common applications include sheet metal work, mechanical assembly, HVAC equipment fabrication, electrical panel fabrication, and plumbing rough-in work. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw chucks. Right-hand spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during drilling. This is a single-piece unit sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 12 pieces per purchase.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or supplemental bit for any standard 3-jaw drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use in drill presses, hand drills, and right-angle drill heads used in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing trade work.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools and applicable shop safety practices. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is fully tightened on the shank before operation. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the bit diameter and material being drilled.
