The HERTEL 2385862 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit delivers consistent performance in short-length drilling applications where rigidity and reduced deflection matter. The 135-degree split point allows immediate bite on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most surfaces. At 2-1/16 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, the short body makes it well-suited for drill presses, CNC machines, and screw machines where clearance is limited. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard 3-jaw chucks.
This bit is built for trade and industrial environments where consistent hole quality in tight tolerances is required. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and production floor operators use screw machine length bits when stub-length rigidity reduces chatter and runout. The heavy-duty grade construction supports repetitive use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The web-thinned, parallel web configuration reduces thrust load during entry, making it a practical choice for hand-drilling steel or automated drilling operations on light-gauge material.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production replacement for standard screw machine length drill bit applications requiring a 5/32-inch diameter, straight-cylindrical shank bit in drill presses, CNC drilling units, and manual hand drills with a compatible chuck capacity.
Install and remove only with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the shank fully within the chuck jaws to the depth of the flute shoulder before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges and point for chips or damage before each use, as a damaged point on a short-length bit can cause rapid deflection in production settings. Proper RPM and feed rate for the material being drilled should follow published machining data for high-speed steel bits at this diameter.
