The HERTEL 2291581 is a straight-flute chucking reamer manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. Sized to wire gauge 58, it produces a finished bore diameter of 0.0420 inches with consistent dimensional accuracy. The reamer features 4 straight flutes ground for right-hand cutting, a straight-cylindrical shank for secure chuck holding, and a compact 2.5-inch overall length with a 0.5-inch flute length. Machinists and toolroom operators use chucking reamers in drill presses, lathes, and machining centers when a pre-drilled hole requires a precise, clean finish to final diameter. The HSS construction provides adequate hardness and toughness for reaming steel, aluminum, brass, and similar workpiece materials at controlled speeds and feeds.

Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and operate at reduced spindle speeds compared to drilling — typical practice is one-half to two-thirds of the equivalent drill speed. Never use a reamer to remove more stock than the tool is designed for; leave only a small, consistent allowance from the prior drilling or boring operation.
