The HERTEL 2291565 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to produce precise, finished holes in metal workpieces. Sized to wire gauge No. 56, it machines holes to a decimal diameter of 0.0465 inches. Constructed from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, the reamer delivers consistent cutting performance across ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in a standard drill chuck or collet. Four right-hand flutes provide smooth stock removal and accurate hole sizing in production and maintenance machining applications. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a flute length of 0.5 inches.
This reamer is suited for machine shop production, toolroom work, and maintenance machining where small-diameter holes require close-tolerance finishing. The wire gauge No. 56 size addresses applications in instrument work, light manufacturing, and precision assembly where standard fractional or letter-size reamers are too large. It is intended for use in a drill press, mill, or lathe with appropriate work-holding and feeds appropriate to HSS tooling in small diameters. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers and operators.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, milling machines, and lathes equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of holding a straight-cylindrical shank in the applicable diameter range.
Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the reamer from the chuck or collet. Secure the workpiece firmly before cutting to prevent movement that can break small-diameter tooling. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material and maintain recommended feeds and speeds for HSS tooling at this diameter range. Inspect cutting edges before each use; discard or resharpen if chipping or wear is visible.
