The HERTEL 2291169 is a straight-flute chucking reamer manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. It is designed to finish-ream pre-drilled or bored holes to a precise diameter of 0.1770 inches (wire size 16), producing tight-tolerance, smooth-bore surfaces in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. With an overall length of 4.5 inches and a flute length of 1.125 inches, this reamer is suited for short through-holes and blind holes in machined components. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders on lathes, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. Installation and operation are performed by machinists and toolroom technicians following standard reaming practices.
This reamer is used in production and job-shop machining environments where wire-gauge hole sizing is required. Typical applications include finishing close-tolerance holes in brackets, housings, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies that require precise fits for pins, shafts, or fasteners in the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch diameter range. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional and CNC machine tools. It is appropriate for both low-volume prototype work and higher-volume production runs where consistent hole quality is critical.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the wire-size diameter range of 0.1500 to 0.1999 inches.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by qualified machinists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet holder to minimize runout, which directly affects finished hole quality. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, and never run a reamer in reverse, as this dulls the cutting edges rapidly.
