The HERTEL 2290302 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to a precise 15/32 inch (0.4688 inch decimal) diameter. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers clean, accurate bores in a wide range of metals and materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in drill chucks and machine collets. With an overall length of 7 inches and a 1-3/4 inch flute length, this reamer is well-suited to general machining operations where dimensional accuracy and smooth surface finish are required. Installation is performed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians using standard drill press, lathe, or CNC setups.
This chucking reamer is used in production and job-shop machining environments where through-holes or blind holes must be brought to final size after drilling. The 6-flute, right-hand cutting configuration provides stable tracking and consistent chip evacuation. It is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces where tight bore tolerances are needed. The 0.4688 inch diameter falls within the 0.4000 to 0.4999 inch reamer diameter range, making it a standard selection for 15/32 inch finished-hole applications.
Designed as a general-purpose chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and CNC machining centers equipped with standard chuck or collet tooling that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by machinists following standard metal-cutting practices. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped before changing tooling. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve optimal surface finish. Do not use a chucking reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill to within a few thousandths of final size before reaming.
