The HERTEL 18663 is a high speed steel countersink designed for producing clean, accurately angled seat profiles in metal workpieces. It features a 7/8 inch head diameter with a 60-degree included angle, making it well suited for deburring drilled holes and preparing surfaces for flathead fastener seating. The 4-flute geometry provides balanced cutting action and improved chip evacuation compared to single-flute styles. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1/2 inch in diameter, allowing it to seat securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication, job shops, and industrial production environments rely on this type of tool for consistent, repeatable results.
This countersink is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a 60-degree seat angle is required. The 60-degree included angle is a common specification in aerospace and precision machining applications, as well as general metalworking where flathead screws or cone-point fasteners require a matching seat. It is compatible with standard drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. The 1/2 inch straight cylindrical shank makes tool changes straightforward on machines with standard collet or chuck systems.
Designed as an OEM-style countersink for use in drill presses, milling machines, and power drills equipped with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank collet or chuck.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the tool.
