The HERTEL 18649 is a high speed steel countersink designed for creating conical recesses in metal, wood, and composite materials. With a 5/8 inch head diameter and a 120-degree included angle, it produces clean, burr-free seats for flat-head fasteners and deburring operations. The 4-flute geometry distributes cutting load evenly, improving finish quality and extending tool life. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3/8 inch in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians install this tool when precise countersinking is required on production or repair work.
This countersink is suited for use on drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills in both shop and field environments. The 120-degree included angle matches the geometry required for many aerospace and general-purpose flat-head fastener standards. It is appropriate for light-to-medium duty countersinking in ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as plastics. The straight shank allows quick changeover in standard 3/8 inch or larger chuck configurations commonly found in machine shops and maintenance facilities.
Designed as a general-purpose countersink for use in standard 3/8 inch or larger drill chucks and collet-style toolholders on drill presses, milling machines, and power hand drills.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Always secure the workpiece firmly before engaging the tool and confirm the chuck or collet is properly tightened before operation. Set spindle speed appropriate to the workpiece material and tool diameter — consult published HSS cutting speed tables for guidance. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and discontinue use if damage is observed.
