The HERTEL 18648 is a high speed steel countersink designed for creating chamfered seat geometry in metal, wood, and composite materials. The 5/8 inch head diameter and 110-degree included angle produce a clean, accurate countersink profile suited to fastener seating, deburring, and spot-facing operations. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3/8 inch in diameter for secure chuck retention in standard drill presses, CNC machines, and hand drills. Four flutes provide balanced cutting action and efficient chip clearance. This tool is installed and used by machinists, maintenance technicians, sheet metal workers, and industrial tradespeople working in production or field service environments.
The HERTEL 18648 is well suited to general-purpose countersinking on ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as plastics and composites. The 110-degree included angle matches common fastener seat requirements for certain aerospace, automotive, and general fabrication fastener standards. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters, making it practical for both machine-shop and job-site use. Typical applications include pre-drilling for flat-head screws, deburring drilled holes, and chamfering entry edges to prevent stress risers in structural assemblies.
Designed as a general-purpose countersink compatible with standard 3/8 inch drill chucks on drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and handheld power drills used in metal fabrication and maintenance applications.
Secure the 3/8 inch shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify that the tool runs true before cutting. Use cutting fluid or coolant when working with ferrous metals to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Set spindle speed according to the workpiece material and tool diameter following standard machining feeds-and-speeds guidance. Inspect flutes for wear or chipping before each use and replace the tool if cutting edges are degraded.
