The HERTEL 18309 is a straight-shank countersink designed for producing clean, angled seat profiles in metal, wood, and composite materials. Built from high speed steel, it features six flutes and an 82-degree included angle, making it well suited for flathead fastener seating and deburring operations. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance pros use this countersink in both manual and CNC drilling setups where accurate, repeatable countersunk holes are required.
This countersink is appropriate for bench drill presses, machining centers, and hand-held drilling applications where a flush or recessed fastener seat is needed. The six-flute geometry provides smoother cutting action and reduced chatter compared to single- or three-flute designs, making it a reliable choice for production runs and precision finishing work on ferrous and non-ferrous stock.
Designed as an OEM-style countersink for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and quick-change tooling systems accepting a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Countersinks are installed by a machinist or skilled tradesperson into a drill press, CNC spindle, or hand drill with an appropriate chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for ferrous materials to extend tool life. Always wear eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped securely before operation.
