The HERTEL 18300 is a 6-flute countersink designed for creating clean, chamfered seating surfaces in metal, wood, and composite materials. Built from high-speed steel, it delivers the edge retention and heat resistance needed for production drilling and fabrication environments. The 90-degree included angle is the standard geometry for flathead fastener seating in general machining and assembly work. The 1/4-inch shank diameter fits standard drill chucks and quick-change tool holders, making it straightforward to integrate into existing setups. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and metal fabricators reach for this type of tool when deburring holes or prepping countersunk fastener seats.
This countersink is suited for light to medium-duty countersinking operations in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance environments. The straight-cylindrical shank provides positive chuck engagement in hand drills, drill presses, and milling machines. The 6-flute configuration reduces chatter compared to single- or three-flute designs, producing a smoother finish on the chamfer. It is a practical choice for repetitive fastener-hole prep on steel, aluminum, and similar materials where consistent seat geometry is required.
Designed as a standard 1/4-inch straight-shank countersink compatible with drill presses, hand drills, and milling machine chucks that accept 1/4-inch cylindrical shanks.
Install in a drill press or hand drill with the chuck securely tightened before operation. Set spindle speed appropriate for the workpiece material — lower speeds for steel, higher for aluminum — to avoid burning the cutting edges. Secure the workpiece firmly before countersinking to prevent grab or chatter. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before use; a dull countersink produces a rough, out-of-round seat.
