The HERTEL 18072 is a single-use countersink designed for deburring and creating conical seat angles in metal, wood, and composite materials. It features a 90-degree included angle and six flutes, which distribute cutting load evenly and produce a clean, chatter-free finish. The 5/16-inch head diameter and 1/4-inch straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and quick-change holders. Constructed from high speed steel, the 18072 maintains cutting edge integrity across a range of workpiece hardnesses. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians use this countersink for screw-seat preparation, edge chamfering, and hole-finish work on the bench or in a drill press.
The HERTEL 18072 is suited for production and maintenance environments where consistent countersink geometry is required. The six-flute design is particularly effective on harder materials where a smooth finish and accurate angle are critical. Its compact head diameter makes it appropriate for close-tolerance work and applications where fastener head clearance is tight. The straight shank fits standard 1/4-inch collets and Jacobs-style chucks, making it easy to integrate into existing tooling setups without adapters.
Designed as a standard countersink for use with 1/4-inch straight-shank toolholders, drill presses, hand drills, and milling machine collet chucks in general machining and fabrication applications.
A licensed machinist or experienced fabricator should set spindle speed appropriate to the workpiece material before use. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before engaging the workpiece. Apply consistent feed pressure to avoid oversizing the countersink; back off feed pressure as the tool approaches final depth. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the tool if chipping or dullness is observed.
