The HERTEL 18022 is a single-flute countersink designed for creating conical seat recesses in metal, plastic, and similar materials prior to fastener installation. Built from high-speed steel (HSS), it delivers consistent cutting performance across a range of workpiece materials. The 90-degree included angle is the standard geometry for flat-head fastener seating in most aerospace, industrial, and general machining applications. The 3/8-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders commonly found in drill presses and CNC machining centers. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals install this tool for deburring holes and preparing countersunk fastener seats.
This countersink is suited for use in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments requiring accurate, repeatable countersunk profiles. The 1/2-inch head diameter and 90-degree angle make it appropriate for standard flat-head machine screws and bolts in both ferrous and non-ferrous stock. The single-flute design reduces chatter during operation, which is advantageous when working with thinner materials or when surface finish quality matters.
Designed as a general-purpose countersink for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drill applications accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank tool.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, mill, or hand drill with an appropriate 3/8-inch chuck or collet. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operating and verify the workpiece is clamped to prevent movement. Run at a lower spindle speed than a standard twist drill of comparable diameter to reduce heat buildup and prolong cutting edge life. Inspect the cutting edge before use and replace if chipping or dulling is present.
