The HERTEL 16IRZAG60HG330T is a laydown threading insert designed for internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers the heat resistance and edge stability required for consistent thread form on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 16IR insert style seats in a laydown orientation, providing rigid support during cut. It covers a partial profile 60-degree thread form with a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI (0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch), making it suitable for a wide range of unified and metric thread standards. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch and the insert thickness is 0.1614 inch (4.10 mm). Sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10.
This insert is used in internal threading applications on production and job-shop turning equipment. Right-hand cutting geometry makes it appropriate for standard right-hand internal thread profiles on through-bores and blind-bore work. The 60-degree partial profile configuration allows it to thread a range of pitches within the 48-8 TPI window without requiring a dedicated insert per pitch. Machinists and CNC operators in metalworking, tool and die, and general manufacturing will find this insert applicable to threading operations in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials where a TiAlN-coated solid carbide grade performs reliably.
Designed as a replacement-style laydown threading insert for 16IR-series internal threading toolholders that accept a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 4.10 mm thickness and 60-degree thread form geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely in the pocket without over-torquing the clamping screw. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming operation. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and machine tool manufacturer guidelines during all tooling changes.
