The HERTEL 16705121 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in production and job-shop environments. It features a 10 mm (0.3937 inch) diameter, a 135-degree split-point angle for accurate starts and reduced walking, and a bright uncoated finish suited to dry or minimally lubricated cutting. At 3.25 inches overall length with a 1.875-inch flute length, this stub-length geometry provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole drilling. Installation and operation are handled by machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or manual machines.
This drill bit is engineered for hard and abrasive workpiece materials where high-speed steel tooling underperforms. Designated primary workpiece materials include cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The slow spiral flute geometry promotes chip control and heat management in these tough materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks or collet systems without additional adapters, making it straightforward to deploy on most machine setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production drill bit for machining operations requiring a 10 mm solid carbide stub-length drill in cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel workpieces.
This bit is installed by machinists in drill chucks or collet holders rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable limits before operation, as carbide is sensitive to lateral loading and can fracture under excessive runout. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds when cutting hard alloys.
