The HERTEL 16704926 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-demand drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from solid carbide, this bit delivers the rigidity and heat resistance required when working in cast iron, stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium alloys, and tool steel. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows the bit to engage the workpiece without a center punch. At 2.1875 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides added stiffness over jobber-length bits, making it well suited for close-tolerance work on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines.
This bit is sized to wire gauge number 15, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.1800 inches. The slow spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut are optimized for chip evacuation in tough ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. The straight cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collet holders. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist cooling is recommended when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloys, or titanium. Machinists, tool and die makers, and precision fabricators will find this bit appropriate for production runs and prototype work alike where a standard high-speed steel bit would deflect or wear prematurely.
Designed for use in applications requiring a wire gauge number 15 drill bit within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch decimal inch size range. Suitable for drilling cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel on CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and screw machines.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Solid carbide bits are brittle and susceptible to chipping if subjected to side loads or improper chuck runout; verify chuck or collet concentricity before use. Power down all machinery and lock out energy sources before changing tooling. When drilling stainless steel, nickel alloys, or titanium, apply external coolant to prevent work hardening and premature edge wear.
