The HERTEL 16691677 is a straight-flute carbide drill bit engineered for demanding material removal in metal fabrication and precision machining applications. It measures 0.242 inches in diameter (Letter Size C) with a 140-degree notched point and a web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance at entry. The carbide substrate is rated at Material Grade C2, providing hardness and wear resistance well above high-speed steel tooling. The bright, uncoated finish keeps tolerances tight, with a diameter tolerance held to +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with hard metals will find this bit sized and geometrized specifically for those materials.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling and precision hole-making in chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium alloy workpieces. Its straight-flute design makes it particularly effective in materials where chip control and hole straightness are critical. With a 1.375-inch flute length and a 2.5-inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders used across job-shop and production-floor environments. The right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with conventional spindle rotation on lathes, drill presses, and machining centers.

This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a drill chuck or collet before operation and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is sensitive to lateral loading. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Avoid using carbide drills on interrupted cuts or with excessive feed rates that could cause chipping at the cutting edge.
