The HERTEL 1002283 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the WNMG 332-AS designation with manufacturer grade HC1250T, applied via CVD coating for elevated heat and wear resistance. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape, a negative rake angle of 10 degrees, and a neutral cutting direction, making it well-suited for general-purpose external and internal turning. Cutting geometry includes a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm). This insert is intended for turning applications where the primary workpiece material falls within ISO material group M, which covers stainless steel and similar austenitic alloys. The WNMG 332-AS geometry is appropriate for medium to finishing passes in both production and job-shop environments. Installation and indexing of carbide turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Never overtighten the clamping screw, as this can cause insert cracking or premature edge failure.
