The HERTEL 1002071 is a CNMG 432-AS solid carbide coated turning insert designed for use in CNC and manual turning operations on metal lathes. It carries the HC1150T material grade, applied via a CVD coating process, which provides wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle of 10 degrees and a neutral cutting direction. The corner radius measures 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch), and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.5000 inches (1/2 inch). This insert is held in place using a lever lock method and is classified under ISO code CNMG 120408-AS. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This turning insert is suited for general-purpose external turning, facing, and profiling operations. The CNMG style with clearance code N and tolerance code M makes it a standard choice for medium to roughing cuts. The primary workpiece material classification is ISO M, indicating suitability for stainless steel and similar difficult-to-machine alloys. The multi-tipped design and G-style chip breaker support chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut up to 5.70 mm (0.2244 inches). This insert is commonly used in production turning cells where consistent tool life and chip evacuation are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fit for CNMG 432 toolholders using lever lock clamping with a clearance code N seat. Compatible with any toolholder specified for CNMG 120408 inserts per ISO standard toolholder families.
This insert is installed and indexed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the lever lock clamp — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seat and chip groove area for debris before seating a new insert edge.
