The HERTEL 1001140 is a TCMT-style solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, designated grade HC210. It is designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a triangular shape (60-degree included angle) with a positive rake geometry and a neutral hand orientation. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch), insert length is 16.50 mm (0.6496 inch), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0160 inch). Installation uses a screw-on holding method. This insert is used by machinists and CNC operators performing precision turning on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning operations on stainless steel (M), non-ferrous metals (N), superalloys and high-temperature materials (S), and cast materials (K) as secondary application. The HC210 grade with TiN PVD coating provides wear resistance and edge stability at moderate to high cutting speeds. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch). The TCMT32 series is commonly found in production turning environments, job shops, and aerospace or medical component machining where controlled chip formation and surface finish are required.
Designed as a screw-on replacement for TCMT3251LF-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a clearance code C and tolerance code M. Compatible with toolholders specified for TCMT-series inserts in the 32.51 size code. Verify toolholder pocket geometry before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the screw-on clamp screw to avoid over-tightening, which can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
