The HERTEL 1000696 is a solid carbide turning insert in TPMR321 style, designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake geometry and a neutral hand orientation. The insert carries a multi-layer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under manufacturer grade HC335, which supports wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous turning operations. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches and the corner radius is 1/64 inches. Insert length is 0.6496 inches (16.50 mm) and insert thickness is 1/8 inches. It is held by a clamp-style toolholder and belongs to the KENDEX series.
This insert is suited for turning applications on P-class primary workpiece materials (carbon and alloy steels) and M-class secondary workpiece materials (stainless steels). Material grades C5 and C6 indicate suitability for finishing to semi-finishing passes on steels where controlled chip formation is required. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it appropriate for light to medium finishing operations. The R chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow in these material types. Machinists and CNC setup technicians working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
Designed for use in clamp-style TPMR-series toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Compatible with C5 and C6 material grade applications targeting P-class and M-class workpiece materials as defined by ISO turning insert standards.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured or removed from the turret per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
