The HERTEL 1000247 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. This insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle (IC), and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The bright, uncoated finish of the HT10 carbide grade makes it well suited for applications where coating would interfere with edge sharpness or where cutting temperatures are moderate. Insert thickness is 1/8 inch and overall length is 0.65 inches. It is held in the toolholder via clamp and pin retention. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct drop-in for compatible TNMG toolholders.
This insert is rated for use on workpiece material codes N and S as primary designations, covering non-ferrous metals and heat-resistant superalloys, with secondary compatibility across material codes K and M, which include cast iron and stainless steel. The HT10 grade with G-style chip breaker geometry makes it a practical choice for light to medium roughing and finishing passes in general turning applications on production floors and job shops. The 0.0156 inch corner radius supports good surface finish while maintaining edge strength at moderate depths of cut.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard TNMG toolholders accepting a 321 insert size code with clamp and pin retention. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, insert size code, and hand designation before installation.
Turning inserts are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tool-setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool-tip location.
