The HERTEL 1000156 is a neutral-hand MTCN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for metal-cutting lathe operations. It accepts TN..332 triangular inserts held by a combination clamp-and-screw method, providing rigid, repeatable insert location during turning passes. The toolholder features a negative rake geometry with a rake angle of -7 degrees, which is well-suited for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials where edge strength is a priority. The 0.5 x 0.5 inch shank mounts in standard OD turning tool posts and quick-change holders. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this toolholder in production and job-shop turning environments.
This toolholder is part of the HERTEL Multi-Option series and is configured for neutral hand, meaning the cutting edge is centered and the holder can be used approaching from either direction without a left- or right-hand offset. It is intended for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The 4.5-inch overall length and 1.13-inch head length suit standard tool-post clearances on small to mid-size turning centers. Compatible inserts are TN..332 triangular indexable inserts with a 0.375-inch inscribed circle diameter. The toolholder does not include coolant-through capability.
Designed for use with TN..332 triangular indexable inserts (insert inscribed circle: 0.375 inches). Fits standard tool posts and quick-change holders accepting a 0.5 x 0.5 inch shank. Manufacturers catalog reference: MTCNN083.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and de-energize the lathe spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Secure the shank fully in the tool post to the correct overhang length before taking a cut. Do not exceed the insert manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate for the specific TN..332 insert grade in use.
