The HERTEL 1-322-1004 is a 4-jaw independent manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on metalworking lathes. Built with a cast iron body, this chuck delivers reliable gripping performance across a wide range of cylindrical and irregularly shaped workpieces. Each jaw operates independently, allowing the operator to dial in precise centering with axial runout rated at 0.0010 inches. The chuck runs at a maximum of 1,500 RPM and features reversible solid jaws to accommodate both inside and outside gripping applications. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this unit in production and job-shop environments where accurate, repeatable chuck setup is required.
This chuck suits residential and commercial machine shop applications involving general-purpose turning, boring, and facing operations on a manual lathe. The 10-inch chuck diameter and maximum jaw capacity of 1-27/32 inches make it appropriate for medium-to-large workpieces. The minimum jaw capacity is 25/64 inches, and the 2.236-inch through-hole diameter accommodates bar stock or shaft work fed through the spindle. Independent jaw adjustment makes this chuck particularly well suited to off-center turning and four-sided workpieces that scroll chucks cannot grip accurately.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct upgrade for manual metalworking lathes accepting a 10-inch independent 4-jaw chuck. Verify spindle nose type and mounting configuration before installation.
A qualified machinist or toolroom technician should install this chuck. Disconnect and lock out power to the lathe before mounting or removing any chuck. Use the correct chuck key and verify the chuck is fully seated and all mounting bolts are properly torqued to the lathe manufacturer's specifications before operating the spindle. Do not exceed the rated maximum of 1,500 RPM during operation.
