The HERTEL 1-203-1000 is a self-centering, 4-jaw manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on engine lathes and manual turning centers. The chuck measures 10 inches in diameter with a plain back mount and spins at a maximum of 2,000 RPM. Cast iron construction provides the mass and rigidity needed for stable, repeatable clamping across a wide range of round and symmetric workpieces. Axial runout is held to 0.0010 inches and radial runout to 0.0016 inches, making this chuck suitable for applications where concentricity matters. At 60 pounds, it is sized for medium to large lathe spindles in production and job-shop environments.
This chuck is intended for use on manual lathes in industrial and machine shop settings, both in production facilities and toolroom applications. The reversible jaws extend its versatility, allowing the operator to grip a range of workpiece diameters from 13/64 inches minimum up to 1-27/32 inches maximum jaw capacity. The plain back mount means the chuck requires a backplate matched to the specific lathe spindle nose. Machinists, toolroom operators, and maintenance technicians performing precision turning work will find this chuck suitable for medium to heavy-duty workholding tasks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or upgrade workholding solution for manual engine lathes accepting a 10-inch plain back chuck mount. A matching backplate bored and threaded to the specific lathe spindle nose configuration is required for installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with lathe spindle nose configurations. Power down and lock out the lathe before mounting or removing the chuck. A properly fitted and faced backplate must be used with plain back chucks to ensure accurate seating and safe operation. Never exceed the rated maximum RPM of 2,000 during operation.
