The HERTEL 1-201-1200 is a 3-jaw self-centering manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on manual lathes. Built with a cast iron body, it features a plain back mount configuration and delivers consistent clamping performance across a range of workpiece diameters. The chuck runs at a maximum of 1,500 RPM and holds axial runout to 0.0012 inches and radial runout to 0.0020 inches. At 106 pounds, this is a heavy-duty unit intended for installation by experienced machinists or shop maintenance personnel working with mid-to-large-capacity manual lathes.
This chuck is suited for production and job-shop environments where reliable, repeatable workholding is required on manual turning equipment. The plain back mount style requires a matching adapter plate or lathe spindle nose to be fitted before installation, making it adaptable to a variety of lathe configurations. Reversible jaws extend workholding flexibility, allowing the chuck to grip both small-diameter and large-diameter stock within its capacity range. Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring operations on cylindrical workpieces in metalworking environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or upgrade chuck for manual lathes equipped with a plain back spindle nose adapter. A matching adapter plate sized to the lathe spindle nose is required for installation and is not included.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or millwright familiar with lathe workholding equipment. Always disengage power and bring the spindle to a complete stop before mounting or removing a chuck. Due to the weight of 106 pounds, mechanical lifting assistance or a minimum two-person lift is strongly recommended to safely position the chuck onto the spindle adapter. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting before returning the machine to service.
