The HERTEL 1-201-0600 is a self-centering 3-jaw manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on manual lathes. Built from cast iron, it measures 6 inches in diameter with a plain back mount configuration and is rated for up to 3,000 RPM. The chuck delivers tight runout tolerances — axial runout of 0.0008 inches and radial runout of 0.0012 inches — making it suitable for applications where concentricity matters. Reversible jaws extend its workholding range from a minimum jaw capacity of 0.125 inches up to 6.3125 inches. Weighing 19 pounds, it is a solid, production-grade workholding solution for machine shops and maintenance facilities.
This chuck is intended for use on manual engine lathes requiring a plain back spindle mount. It suits general turning operations in both job shop and production environments. The 6-inch body diameter and through-hole diameter of 1.1635 inches accommodate a wide range of bar stock and turned components. Machinists working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find the reversible jaw configuration especially practical when switching between inside-diameter and outside-diameter gripping without swapping hardware.
Designed as an OEM-style plain back mount lathe chuck for manual engine lathes accepting a 6-inch diameter 3-jaw chuck with a plain back spindle configuration. A suitable adapter plate matched to the specific lathe spindle nose is required for installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe spindle nose configurations. Power down and lock out the lathe at the main disconnect before handling the chuck. The plain back design requires a properly fitted adapter plate — never mount the chuck without confirming adapter compatibility and proper seating against the spindle nose. Torque all mounting fasteners evenly and verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before returning the machine to service.
