The HERTEL 06821854 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool delivers the toughness needed for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. It features 4 flutes with a coarse pitch geometry that breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces compared to standard end mills. The 1/2 inch cutting diameter and 1.25 inch length of cut make it well suited to slotting, profiling, and roughing passes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. At 3.25 inches overall length, this is a regular-reach tool intended for general shop use.
This roughing end mill is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills in both production and job-shop environments. Its right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction suit standard spindle configurations. The centercutting design allows plunge milling as well as conventional side milling, giving machinists flexibility in toolpath strategies. It is typically installed in precision collet chucks, end mill holders, or shrink-fit tooling with a 1/2 inch bore. Machinists working in tool and die, general fabrication, and maintenance machining will find this tool well suited to roughing steel, stainless, and cast iron before a finishing pass.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for milling operations requiring a 1/2 inch single-end roughing end mill with a 1/2 inch straight shank in conventional right-hand spindle setups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and engagement specifications. Ensure the shank is fully seated to the minimum insertion depth required by the holder before tightening. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against manufacturer recommendations for the specific workpiece material before starting a cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the tool if edge integrity is compromised.
