The HERTEL 06821797 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for high-efficiency material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling, making it well-suited for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. The mill measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 2.5-inch length of cut and a 4.625-inch overall length. Its four-flute, right-hand cutting geometry produces a coarse chip-breaking action that reduces cutting forces and minimizes chatter during aggressive roughing passes. The bright uncoated finish makes wear patterns easy to identify during tool life monitoring.
This roughing end mill is intended for use on manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and bridge-port style machines in job shop and production environments. It is appropriate for roughing steel, alloy steel, stainless, and other ferrous materials where a coarser finish is acceptable in exchange for faster stock removal rates. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically select this tool for first-pass roughing before transitioning to a finish end mill. The regular-length geometry fits standard end mill holders and collet chucks without requiring extended-reach tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit roughing end mill for any machine tool accepting a 0.625-inch shank end mill via standard collet, Weldon-flat holder, or end mill holder.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool-crib personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in E-stop or lockout before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque set screws per the holder manufacturer specifications. Because this tool is not center-cutting, do not plunge directly into solid material — use a pre-drilled hole or a ramping or helical interpolation entry path.
