The HERTEL 06821656 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers elevated heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 4-flute geometry with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction provides efficient chip evacuation during roughing passes. With a 5/16-inch cutting diameter and a 3/4-inch length of cut, this end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where rapid stock removal is the priority. It ships in a bright, uncoated finish. Machinists and toolroom operators working on manual mills or CNC machining centers are the primary users.
This end mill fits standard applications in job shops, maintenance machining, and production environments where cobalt tooling is specified for improved performance over M2 HSS. The 3/8-inch shank diameter accommodates common collet chucks and end mill holders found on vertical mills and machining centers. The regular-length configuration and 2.5-inch overall length make it practical for general-purpose work where extended reach is not required and rigidity is preferred. It is not center-cutting, so it is not suitable for direct plunge operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for use in collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit holders accepting a 3/8-inch shank on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and power is isolated before mounting or removing the end mill from the holder. Verify proper tool runout with a dial indicator after seating in the holder, and confirm adequate clamping torque per the holder manufacturer's specifications. Because this tool is not center-cutting, avoid direct axial plunge operations — use ramping or helical entry strategies when full-slot engagement is needed.
