The HERTEL 04141081 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty holemaking in ferrous and hard materials. It features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most materials. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. At 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch) diameter with a 4-1/8 inch overall length and a 2-7/8 inch flute length, this drill fits standard 3-jaw chucks and drill presses used in metalworking and mechanical trades. It is sold individually and suited for machinists, maintenance mechanics, HVAC sheet-metal fabricators, and pipefitters cutting through steel, stainless, and alloy stock.
This jobber drill is intended for holemaking operations in shop and field environments where standard high-speed steel bits are insufficient. The cobalt construction handles elevated cutting temperatures generated when drilling hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-alloy materials. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters. Web thinning reduces thrust requirements, making it practical in both drill press and hand-drill applications where operator fatigue or spindle torque is a concern.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with any 3-jaw or keyless drill chuck sized to accept a 17/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank, including drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and corded hand drills used in metalworking applications.
Installation and use of this drill bit is performed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals operating drill presses or hand-held power drills. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck and verify concentricity before cutting. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before starting the spindle. Reduce feed pressure when the point breaks through the exit side of the material to prevent grabbing or bit breakage.
