The HERTEL 04138954 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit in wire size 48 (0.0760 inches decimal), designed for holemaking in tough and abrasive materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust than a standard 118-degree point. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, this is a compact, heavy-duty bit suited for precision drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this size range.
Wire size 48 at 0.0760 inches diameter is commonly used for tapping prep holes, instrument work, and close-tolerance holemaking in steel, stainless, cast iron, and high-temp alloys. The cobalt construction with oxide and gold coating provides heat resistance during high-speed drilling cycles. The regular spiral flute geometry with tapered web and web-thinned point promotes chip evacuation in deep or blind holes. This drill does not support coolant-through delivery, so external coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling hard stock.
Designed as a jobber-series drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and machine spindles accepting a 0.0760-inch straight-cylindrical shank across benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held electric drills.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine powered down and the spindle at a full stop. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify there is no runout before beginning a drilling cycle. At this small diameter, use low feed pressure to avoid bit deflection or breakage, and apply cutting fluid when drilling ferrous or hardened materials. Consult the machine manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling at this diameter range.
