The HERTEL 04138665 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 19 (0.1660 inches decimal equivalent) with a 135-degree split point geometry. Cobalt construction gives this bit the heat resistance and hardness needed for drilling into stainless steel, hardened alloys, cast iron, and other tough materials that would rapidly dull a standard high-speed steel bit. The oxide and TiN coating reduces friction and extends tool life between sharpenings. At 3.25 inches overall length with a 2.125-inch flute, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is a practical everyday choice for machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians who drill through hard stock regularly.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in industrial, commercial, and job-site environments. The straight cylindrical shank accepts any standard 3-jaw drill chuck. The regular spiral flute and web-thinned, tapered web design promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce the thrust required to start and finish a hole. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drilling operations. No coolant-through capability, so external lubrication or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling harder stock.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit fitting any 3-jaw drill chuck that accepts a 0.1660-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable across the No. 19 wire size range within 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch decimal inch sizing.
Installed by machinists, ironworkers, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, hand drills, or magnetic-base drills. Secure the workpiece before drilling and apply cutting fluid or oil when working through stainless steel or hardened alloys to manage heat. Inspect the split point for wear before each use and resharpen or replace when the cutting edges show rounding. Follow applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements when operating drill presses.
