The HERTEL 02388254 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for boring holes in low and medium tensile strength materials. It features a 1-31/64 inch (1.4844 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to run in standard 1/2 inch chuck capacity machines despite its larger cutting diameter. The bit is constructed from high-speed steel with an oxide finish for basic corrosion and wear resistance. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling in a wide range of common workpiece materials. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
This drill bit is suited for use in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and industrial applications where holes larger than 1/2 inch diameter are required but only a 1/2 inch chuck is available. Typical applications include drilling structural steel, mild steel, aluminum, brass, plastics, and similar low to medium tensile strength materials. It is commonly used with drill presses, milling machines, and rigid floor-mounted drilling equipment where spindle stability supports the larger cutting diameter.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit for use in any machine equipped with a 1/2 inch capacity chuck, including drill presses, milling machines, and similar rigid drilling equipment. Intended for low and medium tensile strength workpiece materials.
This bit should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or trained trade professional. Secure the 1/2 inch shank firmly in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling metals to extend tool life, even though the bit is rated for dry use.
