The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 87518 is a 5-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. It carries a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.50 mm (0.0200 inch) corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge and extends tool life in hard materials. The Tplus PVD coating enhances wear resistance and heat management. With a variable pitch and right-hand spiral flute geometry, this tool supports both roughing and finishing passes. It is single-end, centercutting, and straight-shank, making it compatible with standard high-precision toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers running production or prototype work typically specify this tool.
The 87518 is built for primary application in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material codes M and S — where tool deflection and edge wear are critical concerns. It is also rated for secondary use in non-ferrous metals and hard materials (codes N and H). The HEV-5 series designation places it in Helical Solutions' variable-index platform, which is engineered to suppress harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts. Typical use cases include aerospace component milling, medical device machining, and precision industrial parts requiring tight tolerances and good surface finish in difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary materials include non-ferrous metals and hard materials. Part of the Helical Solutions HEV-5 series.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling engineer. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a high-precision toolholder and confirm runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before commencing a cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use, particularly when transitioning between different workpiece materials. Follow all machine guarding and personal protective equipment requirements per shop safety protocols.
