The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 87301 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding material removal in superalloys and titanium. It features a 1/4 inch mill diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.0100 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration and extends tool life at the cutting edge. The 6-flute geometry with variable index pitch balances chip evacuation with surface finish capability, making it suitable for both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. A Tplus PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures typical of high-temperature alloys. Machinists and CNC operators working with aerospace or exotic alloy components are the primary users of this tool.
The 87301 is designed for use in high-precision CNC machining centers where tight tolerances and difficult workpiece materials are the standard. Its primary application is cutting superalloys and high-temperature alloys, including titanium, where tool deflection and heat generation are critical concerns. The short flute length relative to the 2 inch overall length provides rigidity for demanding cuts. The straight-cylindrical shank is specified for use with high precision toolholders to maintain runout within the stated 0.0005 inch TIR maximum. This makes it well suited to aerospace, medical, and energy sector component machining.
Designed for use with high precision toolholders as specified by the manufacturer. Primary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium (material code S). Part of the HVNI-6 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a high precision toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications to maintain the stated TIR. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, and confirm feeds, speeds, and coolant strategy are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine capability.
